-S endings
-S endings explanation
Remember the final -S, especially when we add it to make plurals or change a verb.
3:44 of listening & practice
We always hear the -S at the ends of the words except in certain loan words: debris, chassis, rendezvous, Arkansas, Illinois, etc. Otherwise, we always hear the final -S. You will almost never miss an -S that is not a suffix(an added ending) like in bus, glass, boss, success, focus, pass, press, discuss, dance, mess, etc.
What students often miss are -S sounds added to make things plural or in verb conjugations(suffixes): dogs, books, glasses, runs, buses, wants, names, boxes, thinks, changes, games, fixes, works, feels, watches, graphs, moves, increases, shifts, manages, trends, focuses, concepts, processes, designs.
